First Solar Powered Airplane

I saw a broadcast on CNN a few weeks ago about the first solar airplane.
I happen to think that this is awesome and moving in the right direction.
We receive more energy from the sun in one day than we could use in years ! Why not use that energy !

Tech Products vs Natural Products

So something that has been on my mind for a while is the catch 22 that we get in when we want new technology to reduce waste and pollution but we also want more natural products and energies.
We live in a day and age when cell phones and computers and it's hard to imagine the world without them again.
Cell phones and computers contain metals that pollute landfills when they are not recycled.
Yet cell phones and computers reduce paper consumption and forest depletion.
When we think of travel we also should realize that cars ( even electric cars ) use more resources that say, a bicycle.
I don't think that we can be irrational and say that everyone needs to go back to the way things were 200 years ago and not use cars or consume electricity. ( some might argue with that. )
My opinion is that we need to mix and match technology with nature. I'm sure it's possible they can go hand in hand without ruining each other.
Now that we have them, people are always going to use cars, buses, trains and airplanes.
So we need to find ways of making all of the above without creating waste and pollution.
( not just the final product that does not create waste and pollution. )
It takes large machinery and tons of resources to create the roads and highways we drive on so we should invent new ways of making roads and making automobiles.
These are only ideas. I'm not saying I that I or anyone else has the perfect answer. But ideas and new ways of thinking are what helps us improve as a species.

What about Solar Energy?

So,
What about solar energy?
It seems to me that solar technology has been around long enough that we could harness this energy to reduce so much of the energy consumption on this planet.
According to research, the Gobi Desert ( NW China and Mongolia ) could supply nearly all the of the energy consumption on the planet !
So why haven't we put the most abundant source of energy to full capacity yet?
If we spent the same billions of dollars that we spend on Oil research and Technology wouldn't we have already reached our energy demands by the means of solar power ?
I think this is very plausible.
But there is an important factor at work here.
The oil and coal companies have long kept a firm grip on the technology that is supplying the world with power.
A guy trying to find a cure for cancer accidentally found a way to burn salt water with radio waves for Christ's sake !
Unfortunately he said he would sell the patent to any company so he could continue his quest for a cancer cure. ( Gee, I wonder who bought that patent? )
The only option for us ( the ones who have to pay for and consume energy ) is to demand solar power. That's the only way.
I hate to say this but unless the same oil and coal tyrants who have been in control of the resources for so long are the ones who will make money off of solar energy, then I believe that it won't come about as fast as we would all like.
I would love to hear other people's opinions and research on this matter.

Green Jobs?

I find that green jobs and products are the correct path for this world.
I'm really interested in solar panel technology.
I think that the technology has been around a long time except that the people who are making tons of money off of conventional fuels don't want the technology that is available to be used.
So we've all heard the current administration talking about green jobs and clean energy.
I'd like to hear other people's opinions about green jobs and technology.
One of my friends said they used to keep their beer in the river when they would go fishing... I said hey wait.. that's green technology ! hah.
